Cheap Cat Insurance

Keeping a cat has never been easy. They have always required a lot of attention and love to become close with their masters; however up until recently time was the only thing you really needed to spend on them. Cat food might not be as cheap as dog food, but cats do not eat as much. Kitty litter was always a minimal expense. However, with the recent upswing in veterinary science, medical care for your feline friend has become very expensive – and at times prohibitively so. This is where cheap cat insurance comes in.

Is Cat Insurance Common?

Cat insurance is quite common and it is a clever thing to do – a good insurer will not only cover medical treatments which, as has already been mentioned, can be highly expensive but in this litigious society we live in - an insurance policy on damages that your cat could possibly cause is a no-brainer. A simple scratch to a child who is being rough with your kitty can land you up in court and that is expensive. Not to mention damages done in your own home if your cat knocks down a vase, or your kid's brand new video game console. However, the main reason to get cheap cat insurance is because of the medical treatments it covers. You might be one of the 77% of people who underestimate the costs of a veterinary surgeon, but you don´t have to be one of the 96% who recommend taking out a policy only after having spent a large amount of cash!

More Information

The first thing you should know is that the majority of companies will charge you a deductible of $50 before they pay for anything. However, don't let this put you off as it will usually cost more than this just to make an appointment to see the vet. One feline illness could set you back thousands of dollars just in tests. After all, cats can't speak and vets have to find out what is wrong by running a myriad of tests for certain illnesses. Also, a common practice is a co-pay of between 10% - 20%. Many companies have a lifetime cap of around $12000. According to statistics, only 1 in 50, 000 cats ever exceed this limit. Sadly, many cats have been “put to sleep” due to the owner´s lack of money for surgical procedures or diagnosis tests - It's worth thinking about.

Policy Exclusions
